Welcome to the new website for the Asbestos Contractors Group.

The Asbestos Contractors Group is an organization of long standing Asbestos Removal Companies committed to best practice in the Asbestos Removal Industry. We know anything less puts lives at risk.

We work to the highest possible safety standards and have too often been brought in to clean up after other contractors have done the wrong thing. We also work with Government and Government Regulators to maintain and improve standards where possible.

As long standing industry practitioners, we are all too aware of the tragic consequences of mishandling asbestos containing materials. We are extremely concerned that many people are unaware of the dangers and are commonly exposing themselves, their families and anyone else they come into contact with.

There have been three “waves” of asbestos related disease. The first to suffer were those who worked in mines and manufacturing of asbestos containing products; and often their families because they brought the fibres home on their clothes. The second group of people to become ill were building and construction workers and the third, current “wave” are people who have been exposed to asbestos in a domestic setting. Many remember being there when Dad knocked down the old shed.

We are also acutely aware that the cost of both identifying and then removing asbestos containing materials can be prohibitive for the average householder, especially if there is “friable” asbestos (when the fibres are easily released) present. For our own safety and yours it is then necessary to completely contain the area and then use decontamination units for workers to enter and leave.

We believe that there should be an awareness raising campaign and financial assistance for householders to identify and then either remove or make safe any asbestos containing products that are found. We are currently lobbying to that effect.

We hope this site can be a resource to the public and to anyone involved in the asbestos removal industry. People have the right to expect the highest possible standards in this potentially deadly industry, because taking shortcuts can spread contaminated material far and wide.
